Cookie policy

We use a small number of cookies to make our platform work, remember your preferences and improve the experience. Here's what they do and how to control them.

Last updated: 01 January 2026

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files saved by your browser when you visit a website. They let the site remember information about your visit — like your login status, cart contents, language and region.

We also use similar technologies like localStorage, sessionStorage and pixel tags. For simplicity we refer to all of these as "cookies" in this policy.

2. Types of cookies we use

Strictly necessary — required for the platform to function. Cannot be turned off.

  • laravel_session — your session ID
  • XSRF-TOKEN — protects forms from CSRF attacks
  • bd_visitor — anonymous visitor ID for cart persistence

Functional — remember choices to improve your experience.

  • bd_recently_viewed — products you've recently looked at
  • bd_consent — your cookie preferences
  • dx_view — whether you prefer grid or list view

Analytics — help us understand how the site is used (optional).

  • Google Analytics: _ga, _gid
  • Plausible / Mixpanel (anonymous events)

Marketing — only set if you've opted in (optional).

  • Meta Pixel, Google Ads, LinkedIn Insight
  • Email tracking pixels for newsletter open-rate measurement

3. How to control cookies

You can manage cookies in three ways:

  • Cookie banner: click "Customise" the first time you visit to set granular preferences
  • Browser settings: all major browsers let you block or delete cookies — search "cookies settings [your browser]"
  • Account dashboard: logged-in users can update marketing preferences anytime
Note: blocking strictly-necessary cookies will break the platform (you won't be able to log in or check out). Functional and analytics cookies can be safely blocked.

4. Third-party cookies

We use a small number of trusted third-party services:

  • Google Analytics — aggregate traffic stats. Privacy policy
  • PayFast / Yoco / Stripe — payment processing. They set their own cookies during checkout
  • YouTube / Vimeo — embedded videos on product pages. Cookies only set if you play a video
  • Intercom / Tawk.to — live chat (if you open the widget)

5. How long they last

Cookies have one of two lifetimes:

  • Session cookies — deleted when you close your browser (e.g. laravel_session)
  • Persistent cookies — last days, months or up to 2 years (e.g. _ga)

6. Changes to this policy

If we add new cookie types or change purposes, we'll update this page and re-prompt for consent if material.
